Free up space without losing files
Recover storage in a controlled order, reviewing every deletion and keeping important files backed up.
Start by measuring
Open Settings → Storage and identify whether apps, photos, videos, downloads, or another category is using the space.
Use a safe order
1. Review large downloads and files you recognize.
2. Confirm photos and videos are backed up before removing device copies.
3. Remove downloads inside the app that created them.
4. Clear an individual app’s temporary cache only when appropriate.
5. Archive or uninstall apps you no longer use.
Protect your data
Do not confuse Clear cache with Clear storage. Google says Clear storage permanently deletes all app data. Check Trash or Recycle Bin before assuming deleted files have released space.
If storage cleanup is not enough and you are considering erasing the phone, complete Back up Android before a factory reset before taking that irreversible step.
